My above ground pool filter pump gushes water when I want to change the filter?

I just got an above ground soft side pool (the blue kind with the inflatable ring on top). Every time I want to change the filter, water just gushes out of the housing. Any ideas on the easiest way to change the filter without getting soaked and losing gallons of water?
