Would it be a good idea to get a hedgehog?

Ok, I have done loads of research on how to care and what you need to look after a hedgehog. I am hoping to get one for Christmas or my birthday, and I have nearly got everything planed out in my head. Has anyone got any experience with hedgehogs? If so, can you give me some tips. Oh and just in case how can I convince my parents to get me one?
